LTN Operator Intelligence

The Last-Mile Fleet Opportunity Map

Where Britain’s delivery network creates demand for telematics, routing technology, fleet services and EV infrastructure.

For fleet suppliers, the real opportunity is not simply knowing how many vans operate in Britain. It is knowing where those vehicles are working, where parcel demand is concentrated, and where multiple carrier networks overlap.

LTN Operator Intelligence has combined postcode-level home-delivery demand with researched infrastructure across Evri, Amazon Logistics, DPD UK and Yodel by InPost. The model covers 2,787 active postcode districts, around 25.8 million households and an estimated 2.28 billion household parcels annually.

From parcel demand to fleet demand

The model converts household parcel demand into indicative vehicle requirements using a working benchmark of approximately 75 delivery drops per courier or vehicle per day.

The opportunity for suppliers sits where delivery workload, depot density and vehicle intensity overlap.

Four supplier opportunities revealed by the map

1

Telematics

Last-mile vans operate high-frequency routes with repeated stops, idling, driver changes and intensive daily utilisation. That creates a strong use case for deeper vehicle intelligence.

  • Vehicle utilisation and idling
  • Driver behaviour and safety
  • Maintenance alerts and vehicle health
  • EV battery and energy monitoring
  • Route-performance analytics
2

Routing & scheduling

The geography of demand changes the operating problem. High-volume areas farther from infrastructure may face longer stem mileage, lower route density and higher cost per parcel.

  • Dynamic routing
  • Driver-hour optimisation
  • Traffic and time-window planning
  • Multi-depot scheduling
  • EV range-aware dispatch
3

Fleet maintenance & vehicle services

Repeated braking, acceleration, kerbside manoeuvring and short urban journeys create a distinct maintenance profile.

  • Tyres and brakes
  • Mobile servicing
  • Vehicle replacement
  • Downtime reduction
  • Fleet insurance and risk
4

EV infrastructure

Depot-based parcel fleets are strong candidates for electrification, but charging requirements scale rapidly with route volume and fleet size.

  • Grid-capacity assessments
  • Charge-point infrastructure
  • Smart charging and load management
  • Battery storage and solar
  • Energy procurement

Why fleet clusters matter

LTN identified 1,204 postcode districts with at least three of the four researched carrier networks within 25 kilometres. At 50 kilometres, that rises to 2,014. These areas represent concentrated operating territories where multiple fleets may require similar technology and services.

From operator lists to opportunity intelligence

Traditional prospecting begins with a company and asks how many vehicles it operates. Operational intelligence introduces another layer: where is the fleet demand actually occurring?

By combining depot infrastructure, postcode demand and indicative vehicle requirements, suppliers can begin identifying which locations support the largest delivery markets, where route intensity is greatest, and where fleet electrification may create concentrated infrastructure demand.

Methodology: LTN Operator Intelligence combines postcode-level household parcel-demand modelling with researched operational infrastructure for Evri, Amazon Logistics, DPD UK and Yodel by InPost. Depot proximity is a geographic modelling measure and does not represent confirmed carrier delivery territories or market share. Vehicle-equivalent calculations use an operational modelling benchmark of approximately 75 delivery drops per courier/vehicle per day.
